Break Rock combines the best of the modern taproom with everything you love about your favorite neighborhood pub – a fun and inviting atmosphere, a sense of community, and great product.
Our brand strives to create a culture around the blue-collar neighborhood roots of Quincy while acknowledging the city has grown significantly and reflects a diverse population of over 100,000 people of all ages and walks of life.
What’s with the name?
Our brand roots itself in the quarrying history of Quincy. We imagine these workers would be “Breaking Rock” all day, then having a well-earned post-shift beer (or two) with co-workers and friends!
What’s with the logo?
It depicts a “Star Drill” – used to split and remove large sections of bedrock granite. The drill holes would have “feathers” and “plugs” (wedges) hammered in to split the massive stone pieces. You can see examples of the star drill behind the bar on the display shelves.
Break Rock Beer
Quincy built and world class, Break Rock offers a variety of styles, including our flagship options and a rotating selection on draft and to-go.
Break Rock Seltzer
We offer two core seltzer options, Table Top, and Field & Wild, a unique hard seltzer cocktail, available in cans to go as well as on tap.
Food Options
Break Rock frequently hosts food pop-ups, and we welcome you to bring food from any of the amazing restaurants in the area. We’re also partners with Quincy Eats delivery.
We’re Dog-Friendly!
Our taproom is both pet-friendly and people-friendly, featuring both indoor and outdoor seating (seasonal).
Events
Live music, food pop-ups, fitness events, art & more, happening every week in the taproom!

• Our Owners + Our Story •
Jay Southwood
Founder & President
Jay has been in the craft beer industry for over a decade – holding positions in both sales and in production, ranging from Packaging to Head Brewer. He jokes that “his story is not unique to the brewing industry” – having started as a homebrewer who fell in love with making beer and ultimately changed careers to do it for a living! Opening Break Rock Brewing is a dream he has held since his homebrewing days. In 2018, he formed the business and approached his long time friend Vilija to help make the dream a reality!
Fun fact about Jay: Favorite trip taken was to New Zealand. While there, he stayed at a hilltop residence with sweeping views of hop yards and vineyards. It was harvest season. The smell of fresh hops in the air was unforgettable!
Vilija Bizinkauskas
Head Brewer & Co-Owner
Vilija has been a brewing professional for over 10 years in both Massachusetts and Vermont. She also serves as President of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas – New England District. Her passion and love of all things beer will be on obvious display for guests during lively conversation with her over a pint – or two.
Fun fact about Vilija: she is a rockhound who likes to explore rivers, mountains and caves on her travels, searching for rocks and minerals and learning about the landscape and geological history of that area. One recent trip even took her to glaciers in Alaska! She is usually accompanied by her lovable dog and constant shadow – Charlie!
Quincy Built
The Best Thing You Can Say About a Beer
Break Rock Brewing officially opened in March 2022 and immediately felt welcomed by the city. Local business owners, elected officials, and most importantly, residents, were remarkably supportive and we continue to feel grateful beyond measure. 🙏🏻
Since then, we have welcomed the community into the taproom. It’s “the” taproom because it’s just as much yours as it is ours. By design, the taproom nods to Quincy’s bright past and brighter present – be it our local granite tap array, our “Quincy Built” homage, the wall mural of the iconic 1938 Life Magazine photo of quarry jumpers, or our hidden “Kilroy was here” decals (can you find all 5 in the taproom? 🤫) – this is a place we are proud to celebrate and call home.
Thank you to Quincy, and the South Shore, for your support. We are just getting started! 🍻
